Police step up security for Kashmiri students in U’khand after Pahalgam massacre

Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, directions have been issued to all the district police chiefs to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students studying in Uttarakhand. The locations where these students reside or study have been identified, and the local police is in touch with the institute authorities and students to address their safety concerns. According to the Police HQ, all 1,665 Kashmiri students currently studying in Uttarakhand are safe and a constant vigil is being maintained in this regard.
Following the directions, additional Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel have been deployed at locations where Kashmiri students live or study in Dehradun. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh has also directed all police officers and station in-charges to remain in contact with Kashmiri students residing or studying in the district. The police have collected and verified details of 1,201 Kashmiri students currently enrolled in various educational institutions across Dehradun district. Singh organised a meeting on Thursday at the Bidholi police post to strengthen coordination among police officials.
The meeting also included representatives of educational institutions and paying guest (PG) facility managers hosting Kashmiri students. The police gathered information about the students and issued instructions to ensure their safety. Singh instructed all managers to immediately inform the police of any security concerns and to communicate regularly with students to assure them of their safety.
He informed that additional PAC personnel have been deployed at locations where Kashmiri students reside or study in Dehradun. These forces are conducting regular patrols to maintain security. “Our social media monitoring cell is also closely observing online platforms. Police have removed 25 objectionable posts from various platforms so far. We have also registered a case against one organisation for hate speech and for attempting to incite communal sentiments. The said content has been deleted from social media,” he added.
