The police implemented a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on Tuesday to improve women’s safety in government hospitals in Dehradun. The police will also issue notices to private hospitals to conduct a security audit and ensure police verification of all hospital employees, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He stated that additional police forces have been deployed at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and Deen Dayal Upadhyay (Coronation) hospital to ensure round-the-clock security. These police personnel will be stationed with wireless handsets, ensuring 24/7 availability in the hospital premises, the SSP said. He stated that the primary focus of these deployed personnel will be on emergency wards while they will also regularly patrol other areas like the OPD, parking lots, waiting areas and various wards. Their vigilant presence aims to prevent any anti-social activities and ensure safety within the hospital, the SSP said. Police personnel on duty will maintain close coordination with doctors and hospital management through a WhatsApp group, including key hospital staff, security heads and police officials, ensuring seamless communication. They will also be responsible for monitoring CCTV cameras to ensure they are functioning properly and to identify areas that may require additional surveillance. Singh said that monthly security coordination meetings will be held with senior hospital officials to review safety measures. Night inspections by zonal officers will ensure that police personnel are performing their duties diligently, thereby fostering a secure environment for all, especially women, in these hospitals. Besides this, the SSP also instructed all police station in-charges to issue notices to private hospitals in their jurisdictions to conduct a security audit and ensure police verification of all hospital employees.
