Police to ask MDDA to check wedding venues for inadequate parking

Keeping in mind the increasing traffic in areas containing wedding venues, Dehradun Police will approach the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to check whether these venues have the capacity to provide adequate parking. Since many people are forced to park outside the venues due to the lack of parking space which mostly occupies a considerable portion of the road, it causes severe traffic jams regularly. Recently people were stuck in traffic jams in the Haridwar Bypass and Rispana area due to the wedding points there. The senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that when the police investigated the cause, it was found that a total of 45 wedding points were built in the bypass and its surroundings in Nehru Colony and the Patelnagar police station area. It was also observed on the spot that the arrangements for parking the vehicles of the guests attending there were inadequate. The police also received information that the parking spaces of various venues are being allegedly used for other purposes. Considering all these points, the police will ask MDDA to verify whether these venues are built as per the map and why events are being allowed to be held there without adequate parking space. “We will seek details on how many people these venues can actually accommodate. Authorities will take action against these venue operators after examining all these parameters accordingly,” said Singh.
