Police to probe Madarsas to ensure legality, child safety & source of funding

Taking cognisance of children from outside Uttarakhand studying in unauthorised Madarsa in the State, the inspector general of police (Crime and Law and Order) Nilesh Anand Bharne has directed detailed investigation of Madarsas in all the districts. The probe is aimed at identifying illegally operating Madarsas, ascertaining their source of funding and confirming the actual details of the students in such Madarsas.
Bharne said that as per chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s instructions, the transparency in the operation of all Madarsas in the State will be ensured by the authorities. The probe by the police is necessary to ensure the safety of the children and maintain law and order in the State, he said. The main purpose of this investigation is to put a check on illegal activities and ensure that all the Madarsas are operating within the legal framework.
The police will check the registration of all the Madarsa and identify those functioning sans registration. The identity of the children, especially those from outside Uttarakhand, will be confirmed. Further, the sources of funding received by the Madarsas will also be ascertained by the police.
