The police have written to the Uttarkashi district magistrate to order a magisterial inquiry in the alleged suicide case of a young woman whose body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a room in a resort located in Sangamchatti under the Maneri police station area on Friday morning. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been formed to investigate the matter, said the officials. The post mortem was done late on Friday by a panel of three doctors including a female doctor. According to the police, it appears to be a suicide but they are investigating from all angles. The 18-year-old victim’s family members have also raised questions over the post mortem report in which the police allegedly found nothing suspicious. They have claimed that the young woman was murdered by the resort owner and his accomplice. However, the officials have stated that the post mortem proceedings were recorded and a special team is investigating the matter. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was also sent to the spot to gather evidence in the matter on Saturday. The police have also registered a case based on the complaint registered by the victim’s family members under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code in Maneri Kotwali, as per the officials. The family members of the victim have claimed that the body was found hanging from the ceiling with her feet touching the floor. They have claimed that the victim was first murdered and then her body was hanged from the ceiling fan to make it look like a suicide. The family members have also accused the police of trying to protect the killers. However, the police said that the post mortem report did not show any foul play but on the demands of the victim’s family, the police sent the woman’s viscera and vaginal swab for a forensic examination. Many have also been comparing this case with the Ankita Bhandari murder case in which the resort owner is accused of killing the 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari who worked as a receptionist in his resort in Rishikesh. The police have also appealed to people to maintain patience while adding that the SIT is thoroughly investigating the matter and will take strict action if anybody is found guilty in the case.
