Portion of bridge across Malan collapses in Kotdwar

Routine lives of 40K people affected in region following damage
A considerable number of roads remained blocked in different parts of the State on Thursday. In Pauri district, a portion of the bridge on the Malan river in Kotdwar collaphsed on Thursday morning apart from 80 roads under the Public Works Department which were blocked in the district. Four domestic animals died and two women were injured due to lightning in Thalisain Tehsil earlier on Wednesday. On the other hand the water level of the Nayar rivers was reported to be rising consistently. The Alaknanda river in Srinagar reach 534.14 metres level on Thursday, about a metre lower than the danger mark of 535 metres.
A portion of the Malan river bridge connecting Kotdwar with the Bhabar/Terai region collapsed on Thursday morning. This bridge is considered a lifeline connecting Kotdwar and Bhabar. Due to the damage of the Malan bridge, the routine life of about 40,000 people including those in the SIIDCUL are will be affected. The connectivity of the people of Kotdwar and Bhabar has been affected by this damage. Due to heavy rains, Kotdwar and Pauri cities are facing the problems of water logging and other civic issues mainly due to the negligence of the municipal corporations.
