Following court orders for attachment of the property of three Khair smugglers, the forest department in Terai east forest division took action to impound the property of the accused.
During December 2020, three persons- Jaspal Singh, Mohan Singh and Mamle Singh- all residents of Bajpur were the main accused in illegal felling of 41 Khair trees along with four other accused in the Gaula range of the forest division. The department formed a special team to arrest the three main accused but they could not be apprehended. The sub divisional officer Dhruv Singh Martoliya informed that since the three main accused have been absconding, the department secured impounding orders from the court. The department seized all the items from their homes and has kept it in the range office. The SDO further informed that there are 18 forest crime cases lodged against the three main accused in three forest divisions. These three notorious Khair smugglers are said to be connected with Khair smugglers in Haryana. Due to them being absconding fearing arrest, not a single case of illegal Khair felling by their gang has been reported in the three Terai divisions during the past three months.
