With the expansion of the post-mortem house at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital, the capacity for storing bodies will increase from four to six, the medical superintendent of the hospital Dr VS Chauhan said. This decision was made in response to a recent tragic incident in Dehradun where six young adults lost their lives. The Dehradun police faced challenges in managing the bodies of the deceased due to limited space. In light of this situation, the chief medical officer has taken the initiative to expand the post mortem house at the district hospital.
Stating this, Chauhan added that the CMO has recently decided to expand the facility at the district hospital’s post mortem house. Initially, only two deep freezers were available, resulting in the hospital administration being able to accommodate only four bodies at a time. In light of this, the CMO has made the decision to expand the post mortem house by adding an additional deep freezer. This change will bring the total number of deep freezers to three. Consequently, with this increase from the previous four, the post mortem facility will now be able to hold six bodies simultaneously. Chauhan said that the post mortem falls under the CMO’s jurisdiction and that there is no electricity supply from the district hospital, making undisrupted electricity supply challenging in that area. In light of this situation, on the instruction of the CMO, the hospital administration will now provide round-the-clock electricity to the post mortem house. It is anticipated that a new deep freezer will be installed soon, allowing for the completion of pending post-mortems. He added that with the expansion, a new accessway will be built for the post-mortem room.
