Post special Covid officer for Kumbh Mela, directs Rawat

Considering Covid-19, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has directed that a special Covid officer be posted for the Kumbh Mela to be held in Haridwar during 2021. He also authorised the Kumbh Mela officer to grant financial approval of Rs two crore and the Garhwal commissioner to grant financial approval of Rs five crore for Kumbh Mela works. He also directed that a committee of experienced engineers and senior finance officers be formed to assist the Garhwal commissioner in issuing approvals related to the Kumbh Mela. The CM issued these directions while chairing a high level meeting regarding the Kumbh Mela on Saturday.

Rawat directed all departmental heads to make effective arrangements to ensure that the Kumbh Mela is held in a secure and systematic manner. The CM directed the departments concerned to complete all permanent construction works by January 31 and expedite the temporary construction works. He said that SOPs should be issued for facilities to be provided at the departmental level while stressing on the need to pay attention on documentation. The CM stressed on measures for widespread public awareness regarding this.

Informing about construction work on national highways and bridges leading to Haridwar, the PWD secretary RK Sudhanshu said that the construction of Roorkee bypass and all important bridges will be completed before January 31 next year. He said that executing agencies have been directed to expedite works while adding that construction works are being consistently monitored.

Health secretary Amit Negi informed that necessary arrangements are being ensured for the Kumbh Mela in view of Covid-19. He also said that the Kumbh Mela officer should prepare the outline for vaccination of personnel posted for Kumbh Mela duty.

Urban development secretary Shailesh Bagauli informed that 124 construction works costing Rs 473 crore are being executed by various departments for the Kumbh Mela.

The Mela officer Deepak Rawat also informed about various aspects of the works being undertaken. The police inspector general (Kumbh Mela) Sanjay Gunjyal informed about the arrangements being made by the police. Arrangements are being made for six zones, 24 sectors, 21 police stations, nine police lines, 23 police posts and 25 check posts, he said.

Urban Development minister Madan Kaushik, chief secretary Om Prakash and other officials were also present in the meeting.
