Potholes problem persists in Dehradun, commuters suffers

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The roads of the provisional State capital Dehradun continue to be plagued by potholes, sparking concerns among commuters. Recent rainy showers have exacerbated the issue, with water-hidden potholes posing a challenge for drivers. Despite repairs, the fixes are often temporary and the problem persists. Commuters and residents urge authorities to adopt permanent solutions before the monsoon season sets in, rather than resorting to quick fixes that fail to address the root issue.

A resident of Dharampur, Ishaan Uniyal expressed frustration over the deteriorating condition of the roads, stating that he has faced significant difficulties while driving during the recent rainy days. “As water collects in the potholes, they become hidden, making it dangerous for commuters like us. There is an increased risk of accidents. While authorities do attempt to repair the potholes, the question remains: why do they deteriorate so quickly again? The authorities do not ensure permanent fixes,” he said. Uniyal urged officials to make lasting repairs to these potholes before the upcoming monsoon season.

“The situation of potholes in Dehradun remains unchanged from last year,” said Shefali Chauhan, a resident of Nehru colony. She said, “The problem can only be solved if the authorities create a proper plan to address why potholes occur so frequently and ensure they are repaired permanently.”

Senior citizen Ujagar Tandon said that he has been observing the potholes issue in the city for a long time. He pointed out that these potholes pose a danger not only to commuters but also to pedestrians during the rainy season. “Painting walls and other measures will not turn Dehradun into a smart city. It will only become one when residents can live comfortably. A smart city should include the elimination of potholes, which should be repaired before the monsoon arrives’’.

Many other commuters, along with some residents, have expressed similar concerns regarding the persistent pothole problem in Dehradun.
