Prepare plan for exploration of mineral wealth: CS to officers

Chief secretary Radha Raturi has directed the Mining department to prepare a comprehensive working plan for exploration of the mineral wealth in the State.

 The CS chaired a meeting of the officers of Mining department, IIT Roorkee, Monash University Australia and business representatives held at the State secretariat on Wednesday.

In the meeting the CS asked the Mining department, experts of IIT Roorkee and entrepreneurs for developing methodology for exploration, extraction, processing and recycling of critical minerals. 

She highlighted the need to develop a common platform on the principles of cooperation, partnership and complementarity between the State government, education sector and industry for self-reliance in the sector of minerals in the State. 

Raturi also stressed on the necessity of taking the help of leading experts in evaluation, exploration, extraction, mining sustainability and supply chain analysis of critical minerals while adding that the IIT Roorkee will have a major role in this endeavour. 

The CS said that special training programmes, workshops and applied research and capacity building need to be strengthened to develop expertise in critical mineral technologies. Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant and others attended the meeting.
