The tiger conservation plan (TCP) should be prepared with focus on mitigating human-wildlife conflict. Chief secretary Om Prakash said this at a meeting in which a presentation on the TCP for Rajaji tiger reserve was made.
Regarding the road and boundary wall to be constructed in the future along Rajaji from Asharodi to Haridwar Road, he said that road and boundary wall should be constructed in a manner which keeps the national park fully protected. He also said that a plan needs to be made to decrease the pollution in Suswa river. The officials were also directed to prepare proposals for road construction and riverbed material collection only in the buffer zone area in the future.
The chief secretary further directed that wildlife monitoring should be increased in Rajaji and its adjoining areas while a better plan should be made to enhance the habitat. He stressed on developing Chaurasi Kutia near Rishikesh for eco tourism. Om Prakash further said that if due to unavoidable reasons there is a need for building a road in the core area, priority should be accorded to infrastructure like a ropeway instead of a road so that there is no negative impact on the wildlife. Principal secretary Anand Bardhan, secretary RK Sudhanshu, chief conservator of forests Vinod Kumar and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
