The Assembly speaker Ritu Khanduri has said that the Assembly secretariat is ready to organise the upcoming winter session at either Dehradun or Gairsain. Interacting with the media persons in Vidhan Sabha after the meeting of the leaders of the legislature parties on Monday, Khanduri said that it is the prerogative of the State government to make a decision on the place–Dehradun or Gairsain– where the Assembly session would be held. She added that the Vidhan Sabha is prepared and capable of organising the session at either place. She said that the winter Assembly has to be held before December 16.
Khanduri said that a programme would be held in the Gairsain Assembly building on the occasion of State foundation day on November 9. She said that the State foundation day and the upcoming Assembly elections in the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh where many leaders of Uttarakhand are busy are some of the factors which would be considered for deciding the venue of the winter session.
The meeting of the leaders of the legislature parties was attended by the Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal, leader of opposition (LoP) in state assembly Yashpal Arya, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mohammad Shahjad and independent MLA Sanjay Dobhal. In the meeting the Speaker requested the leaders to cooperate in proper functioning of the house. The issue of the assembly building where the session would be held was also discussed. She said that the house represents the collective aspirations of the people of the State and it is the responsibility of the members to give voice to the concerns of the people they represent.
