The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal stated that the President’s secretariat has approved the proposal to develop 132 acres of restricted land at the President’s Ashiana in Dehradun into a multi-theme public park. President Droupadi Murmu will lay the foundation stone for the project in June and the park is expected to be inaugurated in 2026. Bansal informed that the district administration had submitted the proposal earlier this year and the approval was granted after a meeting with senior officials.
The President’s Ashiana, located on Rajpur Road in Dehradun, spans 21 acres and from June 20, this building will be open to the public. Bansal said that along with the main structure, the premises will include a visitor facility centre, horse riding activities, an art exhibition area, a cafeteria and a souvenir store. The park will be designed based on the concept of London’s Hyde Park and will include various amenities, he said. The administration has also invited public suggestions to make the project more inclusive.
The DM said that the President’s Secretariat has made a feedback form available on its official website, where residents can submit their inputs. Local stakeholders are requested to provide their suggestions, which will be considered while preparing the detailed project report (DPR). The administration aims to create a space that will serve as a centre for greenery, recreation, and cultural activities, Bansal said.
He said that a meeting was also held at the Ashiana office that focused on the project’s development and the necessary arrangements for roads, electricity, water supply, security and other essential services.
