On the second and concluding day of her Dehradun visit President Droupadi Murmu performed Rudrabhishek at the Raj Pragyeshwar Mahadev temple at Raj Bhawan on Friday. She then inaugurated the Nakshatra Vatika, a symbol of the spiritual, natural and cultural heritage of Uttarakhand and planted a sapling of Palash. Along with governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami among others were also present on the occasion.
A unique blend of Indian spirituality, ancient knowledge and nature conservation, the Nakshatra Vatika has 27 plants that coincide with their respective constellations. These floa include Kuchila, Amla, Gular, Jamun, Khair, Agar, bamboo, Peepal, Nagkesar, Banyan, Dhak, Pakad, Chameli, Bael, Arjun, Harshringar, Maulshri, Semal, Sal, Sita Ashok, jackfruit, Mandar, Shammi, Kadamb, Neem, mango and Mahua. The names of the trees related to these Nakshatras, planets and zodiac signs are found in Ayurvedic, religious and astrological texts.
Conservation of these floral species in the form of a Nakshatra Vatika at Raj Bhawan is a unique initiative to enrich biodiversity.
