The previous principal chief conservator of forests (head of forest force) Rajiv Bhartari has approached the Uttarakhand high court challenging his transfer from the post. According to sources, the petition might be taken up by the court for hearing on Wednesday. The petitioner has stated that he is the senior most Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer in the State. However, in November last year, he was transferred from the post of PCCF (HoFF) to the post of State biodiversity board chairman. The petitioner had made four representations to the government but these were not heard. Bhartari said that he was transferred due to political reasons and his constitutional rights were violated. It is pertinent to mention here that Bhartari was transferred from the top post in the State Forest department after the case of illegal constructions in the Corbett national park came to light.
