Teams of scientists at the Patanjali Research Institute (PRI) under Patanjali Yogpeeth claim to have ascertained scientific validations of a well-known ancient Ayurvedic medicine- Chyawanprash. Patanjali Research Foundation Trust general secretary Acharya Balkrishna has identified these findings as yet another landmark achievement in deciphering the ancient Ayurvedic knowledge in the light of modern science. He emphasised this as a pioneer study that scientifically validates Chyawanprash, a daily used holistic Ayurvedic medicine. Chyawanprash is mostly recommended during winter, when we are more susceptible to cough, cold and fever. However, until now, there was no scientific proof of its health benefits. Now the scientists of PRI have discovered how Chyawanprash helps the body in fighting against inflammation, fever, cough and cold. The findings from this study has been published in the international journal Frontiers in Pharmacology.
According to the scientific details shared by PRI vice president Dr Anurag Varshney, the scientists conducted the studies with Chyawanprash on human immune cells and on zebrafish model of disease caused by infections which arises due to a process called inflammation. Varshney and his team of scientists found that when the zebrafish were fed with Patanjali special Chyawanprash, the fever and its biomarker CRP reduced to normal levels. Their activeness increased and they showed better agility and locomotory behavior.
