Prioritise reopening of blocked roads: Joshi to officials

With a large number of the roads remaining blocked across the State amidst the continuous spell of rains, the State Rural Development minister Ganesh Joshi directed the department’s officials to prioritise the reopening of roads which come under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) while chairing a review meeting of the Uttarakhand Rural Roads Development Agency (URRDA) here on Wednesday.

 During the meeting, Joshi sought detailed information about the damage caused by the rain and the status of the closed roads under PMGSY. He also stressed on prompt reconstruction of the roads and bridges damaged by the rain.

Further, the minister directed that compensation be distributed through organising camps among the villagers whose lands had been acquired for development projects.  

The officials apprised the minister of the status of the closed roads at the meeting. As per the data shared by them, 106 roads have been closed in Garhwal region with 92 mechanical excavators  being deployed for clearance. In the Kumaon region, 32 mechanical excavators are currently working to open 30 closed roads. Overall, a total of 136 roads are closed across the State and efforts to reopen them are now going on in full swing. 

In the meeting Joshi instructed that construction work related to PMGSY roads, bridges and approach roads within the Karnprayag Assembly constituency limits should be completed at the earliest.
