Considering the concern of parents regarding the increase in tuition fees, the Principals Progressive Schools’ Association (PPSA) of Uttarakhand has urged private schools to seek parental consent before implementing any annual fee hike. Recently, many parents have expressed their dissatisfaction with private schools raising tuition fees every year by a significant margin, consequently affecting them financially. Addressing this issue, the head of the PPSA Prem Kashyap said that the association has been receiving parental concerns about tuition fees for a considerable period of time. In response, he conducted a meeting with representatives of private schools to advise them on how to address and alleviate parental concerns about tuition fee hikes. Kashyap further added that the association asked and advised all 178 private schools to organise a parent-teacher meeting annually in November. In this meeting, the teachers of each class are expected to discuss with parents and receive their consent on potential tuition fee adjustments. He emphasised that after obtaining consent, a mutual decision will be made between the school management and parents in December to adjust fees for the upcoming academic year based on parental consent, he added

He emphasised that this measure will help ensure parents’ satisfaction and prevent them from attributing the improper increase in school fees to schools. He informed that he has specifically instructed the schools to limit the fee hike to a maximum of 10 per cent.

It will be recalled that Abhivavak Ekta Samiti and National Association for Parents and Students Rights (NAPSR) had recently expressed concerns regarding the escalating tuition fees in private schools, along with additional charges such as annual fees and building fees. Apart from this, they even urged the Education department to carry out inspections at these institutions and address the issue.
