The Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara has demanded that a high level judicial inquiry should be conducted into the allegations levelled at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s State general secretary (Organisation) in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. The Congress will take out a rally at the block and booth levels to seek justice for Ankita Bhandari, he said.
Addressing the media at the Congress State head office here on Sunday, Mahara said that while chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is stating in public forums that the Congress lacks moral strength, he should show the courage to get a high level judicial probe done into the allegations levelled against a senior BJP functionary in the letter written by Ankita Bhandari’s father to the Pauri district magistrate. He said that a priest and his disciple were murdered on the same day in the CM’s home district while a BJP office bearer in Dhami’s Vidhan Sabha constituency is accused of sexually exploiting a minor but the CM is searching for moral weakness in the Congress.
The PCC president said that more than a year after Bhandari’s death, her family members have alleged that the BJP general secretary (Organisation) was the ‘VIP’ connected to the case, they must surely be having some basis to level such an allegation. The basis for this allegation should be investigated. “As it is, those appointed as the BJP State general secretary (Organisation) have a bad track record. People from outside the State are appointed to this post, who do not hesitate to treat the women of Uttarakhand in an undesirable manner. While our leader Rahul Gandhi will start the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur on January 14, we in Uttarakhand will undertake an Ankita Bhandari Nyay Yatra from January 14 to 16 at the block and booth levels. The people in Uttarakhand have self respect and the dignity of women is important for us. If the name of a person linked to the RSS emerges as the ‘VIP’ in the Ankita Bhandari case, it is the moral responsibility of the State government to probe this allegation to clarify the situation,” the PCC president said.
