Local residents planted a number of saplings in the Nalapani Road and Amwala areas of Dehradun on Sunday as part of Project Chhaon. The initiative was launched by Umesh Agarwal Foundation and Elloras Melting Moments. They have pledged to maintain these saplings for the next five years.
The organisers said that the project aims to envelop the city in greenery, reducing heat and improving the environment. The campaign actively involved city residents, encouraging community participation.
Organizer, Drona Gulati said, “The overwhelming participation in this tree plantation drive, despite the weather, showcases our community’s dedication to a greener Dehradun. Each tree planted will be nurtured to thrive and we will ensure the trees grow well. It was heartening to see people naming trees after their loved ones. We shall be installing name plates for every such tree from Monday.”
The organisers said that the project was supported by Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, position holder Jyoti Prasad Gairola, Dehradun’s senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh and other prominent citizens.
