Considering the heavy rain, frequent waterlogging and dengue spread in various parts of the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is likely to postpone its plan to set up camps in slums to maximise property tax collection this financial year. Earlier, the officials had planned to set up camps in all slums at a massive level for the first time in August but incessant rain has forced the corporation to push this plan to the next month, said the municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal.
Though the corporation has set up camps for property tax collection in some slum areas in the past, this will be the first time such camps will be organised on such a level in over 120 slums of the city. The tax section aims to cover over 50,000 houses in these slums with these camps. The municipal commissioner said that the corporation will also raise awareness in slums before the commencement of the camps with the help of the local councillors to ensure that the maximum number of slum dwellers arrive for property tax submission.
The rain and dengue cases can cause hindrance to this plan considering which the camps will most probably be set up in slums next month. Goyal said that he has directed the tax section to prepare a roster to conduct the camps to ensure the maximum number of people residing in slums arrive for property tax submission.
