The massive protest of unemployed youths affected by scams in recruitment examinations in Dehradun on Thursday elicited mixed response from people. Some said the protesters created ruckus and caused inconvenience by blocking the entire traffic system of the main roads of the provisional State capital. According to them, the move of pelting stones at the police personnel, who were doing their jobs to maintain law and order, was out of line. However many also opined that the government needed such a jolt to make it realise how miserably it is failing the youth here. Stating that he understands the emotions behind the massive protest of unemployed youths, Mohit Rawat (22) said, “Anybody who wants to work in the government sector knows that preparing for any government recruitment examination requires lots of dedication, sacrifice and time. We prepare thinking that we would succeed if we work hard on our studies. It feels terrible to know that the government cannot even ensure fair examination.” Sahastradhara Road resident Swati Saini (24) said that people who are complaining of traffic issues they faced due to protest should also think once about the future of these unemployed youth. She said, “Such scams in recruitment examinations endanger their future. Many leave their homes in remote areas and live in the city to prepare for examinations doing menial jobs and not to be a burden on their parents. Such people and their families are more traumatised with recruitment scams than those who are complaining of slight inconvenience due to the protest.”
