In an event unprecedented in the history of the State, the opposition Congress MLAs spent the night on the floor of the house of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha here on Tuesday. The Congress members were demanding discussion on the law and order situation in the State.
The government tried to persuade the opposition members to suspend their protest but their efforts failed. The Congress members wanted the government to suspend the senior superintendent of police of Nainital and transfer the district magistrate.
The Congress members were accompanied by the independent MLA from Khanpur, Umesh Kumar. The opposition MLAs even brought mattresses and quilts to the floor of the house to spend the night.
The leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya told The Pioneer on Wednesday morning that the government is very adamant and is not taking action on the SSP of Nainital even after a stern observation by the Uttarakhand High Court.
