The Mool Niwas Bhukanoon Sangharsh Samiti led by its convenor Mohit Dimri attempted to march towards the Vidhan Sabha building on Tuesday, demanding the fulfillment of promises made during the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections. However, the police stopped them at the Rispana barricade. The protestors claimed that they seek a discussion on the permanent residency law and land laws in the ongoing Assembly session.

They demanded that land laws be people-centric and warned against any provisions favouring land mafias. They also opposed the Uniform Civil Code’s provisions on one-year residency and live-in relationships. The Samiti stated that they wanted to meet chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and ministers to present their demands but were denied a meeting.

Dimri also criticised the State government for prioritising salary and pension hikes for MLAs and former MLAs while ignoring public issues. He questioned whether Assembly sessions were only meant for lawmakers’ benefits and not for addressing concerns of common people. He highlighted the struggles of outsourced and contractual employees fighting for equal pay, retired employees demanding the old pension scheme and various other employees seeking wage hikes. He accused the government of neglecting promises made during the elections. He cited the BJP’s manifesto, which included commitments like providing Rs 3,000 per month to unemployed youth under the CM trainee scheme, financial aid for farmers and medical college establishments in each district.

He also mentioned the unfulfilled promise of a credit guarantee fund for ex-servicemen. The Samiti demanded free electricity and water for Uttarakhand residents, similar to schemes in Delhi. Dimri questioned why people in a power-producing State were paying high electricity rates and why a water-rich region was charging residents for water. He also demanded financial support for women under a scheme similar to Delhi’s Mahila Sammriddhi Yojana. He warned of further action if their demands were not met.
