Public continues to suffer due to potholes and traffic in monsoon

Tuesday, 22 AUGUST 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that the public continues to suffer due to potholes on almost every road in Dehradun amid the heavy rain which is causing long traffic jams. Potholes on waterlogged roads are also causing accidents daily and all these issues could be avoided if the government had taken appropriate measures before the monsoon. The party’s spokesman Ravindra Singh Anand said that the condition of the city is so bad in the rainy season that it has become very difficult for the common man to walk on roads, especially during rush hours. “Long traffic jams can be observed during usual school timings as everyone is in a hurry to take their child to school or home. A long queue of two-wheelers stuck in traffic jam can be observed due to potholes. The water-filled potholes increase the chances of accidents as they are not visible to commuters. When one suspects it to be just a small quantity of rainwater accumulated on the road and goes ahead with their two-wheeler, it often causes accidents leading to serious injury,” said Anand. He said that the departments are carrying out patchwork on roads and filling these potholes during the monsoon which is completely useless. “The public does not even know whom to approach with their grievances because this carelessness is directly done at the government level. The officials have spent about Rs 2,000 crore in the name of smart city projects but the situation is becoming worse for the public with the passing time,” added Anand.
