Public holiday declared on Nov 12 for Igas

PNS/DEHRADUN

In latest news from Doon, the State administration declared November 12 as a public holiday to mark the Igas festival. An order has been issued to confirm the holiday. Notably, Igas, also known as Budi Diwali, is celebrated in the hills of Uttarakhand 11 days after the Deepawali festival’s celebration. The reason is that the news of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after slaying the demon king Ravana reached the remote mountainous villages 11 days later.

The Igas is celebrated in the hills on the lines of the Deepawali through lighting diyas. Earlier, there was no public holiday on the occasion of this festival, but the declaration of holiday has added vigour to the celebration.
