The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) employees ended their work boycott started on Monday and resumed work after a meeting with mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’. However, the public still had to suffer due to the locked offices on the premises on Tuesday.
Since Monday morning, the work at MCD was stalled after a verbal spat between two councillors and the employees of the light section of the department. The public arriving in the corporation had to suffer on Monday and for over two hours on Tuesday as well since the employees refused to work in their respective sections before meeting the mayor. “I came here to deposit property tax on Monday but the entrance to the tax section was locked. I came on Tuesday at 9:30 AM to deposit the tax immediately after the counters open but the work did not resume till 12 PM. I had to waste many hours just to pay the tax,” said local resident Babulal Gusain.
According to light inspector Ranjit Rana, the councillors questioned them about the delay in installation and repairing work of LED street lights in their respective wards to which they responded that EESL Company is responsible for such works. The councillors misbehaved with the employees so they locked the offices in protest, said Rana.
During the meeting, they presented their issue before ‘Gama’ who convinced them to resume their work. He also said that the councillors are also feeling pressurised by the public due to inefficiency in street light repairing and installation work and he will soon take action against the company. After his assurances, the employees resumed work at noon.
