Punitive action taken against excise officers in Dehradun, Haridwar

Taking a stern note of sale of illicit liquor and other irregularities, the State administration has taken punitive action against some officers of the excise department. The excise commissioner HC Semwal said that on November 20, a raid was carried out in Khalanga area of Raipur in Dehradun in which 110 boxes of imported illicit liquor was recovered and four persons were arrested. He said that the assistant excise commissioner (enforcement) Garhwal, Devendra Giri Goswami has been suspended for showing laxity in the case.
Similarly the district excise officer of Dehradun Rajiv Singh Chauhan has been removed from his position and attached to the office of excise commissioner and the excise inspector (enforcement) Dehradun, Saroj Pal has been suspended.
Semwal said that on November 19 inspections were carried out in the liquor shops in Haridwar in which many irregularities were found. In one case, 52 boxes of liquor were found without a hologram. He said that a show cause notice has been served to the DEO of Haridwar and excise inspector Haridwar Sanjay Singh Rawat has been put under suspension in the case.
