Pushkar Singh Dhami completes 3 three years as CM

Friday, 05 JULY 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami completed three years at the helm in Uttarakhand on Thursday. Earlier,  in a surprising turn of events, Teerath Singh Rawat resigned on July 1, 2021 in less than four months of assuming charge as CM from Trivendra Singh Rawat and young Dhami was anointed on the position of CM of the State by the BJP leadership. He assumed office on June 4, 2021 and was reappointed on the coveted post on March 22, 2022 after the BJP came back to power in the State. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed faith in Dhami even though he lost from his traditional Khatima assembly constituency.

In the last three years, CM Dhami has taken a series of important decisions and has cemented his position in the State BJP which has many senior leaders and as many as five former CMs.  In his first tenure as the CM of the State, Dhami took many decisions in the interest of youth and women. In the assembly elections of 2022, the BJP entered into fray in the leadership of the young CM Dhami. In the elections, the BJP registered victory in 47 out of 70 seats and came back to power breaking the myth that the ruling party did not win in the assembly elections. With the support of PM Modi and central leadership of BJP, Dhami emerged more assertive in his second tenure. He created history by preparing the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and getting it cleared from the State assembly. The bill on UCC of Uttarakhand will act as template for similar bills in other States.  In the wake of a series of recruitment scams, Dhami acted tough by bringing a stringent anti-copying act in the State which has helped in making the recruitment examination transparent. The Dhami government was also successful in making stringent provisions against conversions in the anti conversion law. His government also enacted a strict anti- riot bill in which there is a provision to recover the damage caused to public and civil property in riots from the rioters. The Women of Uttarakhand were given 30 per cent reservation in government jobs by the Dhami government.

The completion of three years of Dhami as CM of the State kept trending on social media on Thursday. #DhakadDhamiKe3Saal was the second most trending thing on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday after the #IndianCricketTeam.
