A few hours after the announcement of his name as the party nominee, Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers for the prestigious Rae Barely constituency in presence of Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
Notably, Feroz Gandhi won the seat twice in 1952 and 1958 Lok Sabha elections and then Indira Gandhi started her Lok Sabha career from this constituency. After deaths of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia got elected from this constituency for a number of times till 2019 election. So, Rahul has been entrusted with the responsibility of keeping the family’s traditional connection with this constituency which is deemed as the pocket borough of the Gandhi Nehru family.
