The three-day visit of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was portrayed by the Congress party as a religious affair but during his stay the Congress leader held serious deliberations on the Himalayas.
During his stay he spent considerable time with noted geologist and professor at Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali university of Horticulture and Forestry SP Sati.
Incidentally the Congress leader kept his tour a strictly personal affair and avoided meeting political leaders but he held discussions on various issues concerning the Himalayas with Sati. After meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Sati said in a post on social media that he was told by professor Shekhar Pathak that Gandhi wanted to visit Kedarnath on a personal visit and that he wants a person with knowledge of the Himalayas to accompany him during the tour. Sati said that he took permission from his vice chancellor for meeting the Congress leader. Sati, who had spent an entire day with Rahul Gandhi in Kedarnath, said that serious discussions were done on Himalayas, glaciers, natural activities, rivers and climate change by Rahul Gandhi.
“He appeared very concerned and sensitive, and posed questions. I have no hesitation in admitting that his understanding of the scientific aspects of the Himalayas is more than other politicians. I was also impressed by his philosophy on Shiva and understanding of spirituality,’’ Sati said.
