Rain and floods cause death and destruction in State

More than half a dozen died due to heavy rain, landslides and resulting factors in different parts of the State since Wednesday night. Locals claim the death toll is higher. Tehri, Dehradun, Rudraprayag and some other parts of the State witnessed heavy to very heavy rain from Wednesday evening onward. Hundreds of people travelling to Kedarnath were stranded due to multiple landslides, they were rescued by the State Disaster Response Force (SDCR) and other agencies. According to information from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC)

a 70-meter stretch of the route to Kedarnath ahead of Bhimbali police post was washed away on Wednesday night. The authorities made accommodations for about 200 travellers stranded due to this. Further, about 700 visitors were transported out in four helicopters. Apart from this, about 1,700 visitors were taken by the bridle path to Sonprayag. Meanwhile 22 gural motor roads are blocked in Rudraprayag district. Two state highways, one main district road and three rural motor roads  are blocked in Uttarkashi district while two State highways and eight rural motor roads are blocked in Nainital district. Thirteen rural motor roads are blocked in Bageshwar district.

Two persons died and one was injured in Dehradun district where two State highways, one main district road and 40 rural motor roads are blocked. Two border roads and 25 rural motor roads are blocked in Pithoragarh district while one main district road and six rural motor roads are blocked in Almora district. Three rural motor roads are blocked in Champawat. Four persons died and eight were injured after a house collapsed in Haridwar on Wednesday night. In the Chamoli district, 33 rural motor roads are blocked while one State highway and one rural motor road are blocked in Udham Singh Nagar. Three people died in Tehri district due to flooding while one State highway and 14 rural motor roads are blocked in the district.
