Rain and snow: UPCL gears up to maintain regular power supplies

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
In view of the widespread snowfall and rains in the State, the managing director of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) Anil Kumar Yadav has directed the field officers and units to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the consumers under any circumstances.
On Friday, the MD convened a video conferencing session in which he instructed all the chief engineers, superintending engineers, officers and employees not to leave their work places. He also directed them to make all necessary preparations to minimize the response time in case of power supply disruption anywhere. Yadav said that the objective of the UPCL is ‘zero response time’ and for this the control room helpline number 7579179109 located at the headquarters has also been issued.
He said that the power distribution network is being continuously monitored across the State. Special inspections are being conducted on all 33/11 kV substations, feeders, distribution transformers and preventive maintenance is being completed on a priority basis to ensure reliability in case of emergencies. All regional and divisional officers have been directed to ensure that transformers, trolleys, cables, conductors, insulators and other essential electrical materials are available in sufficient quantities so that quick repair and restoration of supply can be ensured in case of any emergency.
Yadav added that load management is being continuously monitored to keep in mind the increased demand due to use of heaters and other electrical appliances during extreme cold.
The MD appealed that the people should not go near broken electric wires or poles during rain, snow, strong wind or fog and they should immediately report any electrical emergency to the nearest electricity office or toll-free number 1912.
