Rain and snowfall forecast in most parts of State today

After nearly two months of no rain or snowfall in the winter months, Uttarakhand is likely to witness rain and snowfall today. The rain and snowfall will not only provide relief from the dry cold but also bring about a gradual drop in the maximum and minimum temperatures across the State where many parts are not yet witnessing the biting cold generally experienced during December.

The State Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at isolated places over Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts on Sunday. Apart from this, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at some places over Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts and very light to light rain is likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is likely to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky becoming generally cloudy towards the evening/night. Very light to light rain/thunderstorm is likely to occur towards the evening/night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 21 degrees Celsius and six degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

The temperature drop is already being experienced in Dehradun and other parts of the State, with the minimum and maximum temperatures in Dehradun recorded a degree below normal on Saturday. The minimum temperature is forecast to drop two degrees Celsius below normal on Sunday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Saturday were 21.7 degrees Celsius and 7.3 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 24 degrees Celsius and 4.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 15.5 degrees Celsius and 4.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 14.6 degrees Celsius and 5.9 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. The maximum and minimum were both a degree below normal in Dehradun while the minimum was three degrees below normal in Pantnagar. The maximum was a degree above normal in Mukteshwar while the maximum was degrees below normal and the minimum was a degree below normal in New Tehri.
