Rain and snowfall likely in seven districts today

After about a week of clear weather, the State is set to witness a spell of rain and snowfall from today. The State meteorological centre has forecast that light to moderate rain/snowfall is likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts and very light to light rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun and Tehri districts on Sunday. Further, snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above in these five districts. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts.
Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State. The provisional State capital Dehradun is likely to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky today with thunder cloud development likely to occur in some parts. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 26 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Saturday were 26 degrees Celsius and 10.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 24.4 degrees Celsius and 5.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 18.9 degrees Celsius and four degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 18.4 degrees Celsius and 5.7 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
It will be recalled that an active western disturbance with induced cyclonic circulation is likely to affect Uttarakhand from February 18 to 22. Under the influence of this system, rain/snowfall/thunderstorms are very likely to occur from February 18 to 22 with peak activity on February 19 and 20 in the State.
