In latest news from Doon, with heavy shower and resultant landslides occurring in large swathes of Uttarkashi district, the Gangotri MLA Suresh Singh Chauhan met the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and apprised him of the damage caused by the rain.

Things worsened when heavy downpour caused landslides from Varunavat hill. While huge boulders and debris crashed down the nullahs overflowed. Several two-wheelers went under the huge pile of debris.  The people living there and neighbouring areas were evacuated to ashrams and dharamshalas.

Taking note of the serious situation, the CM directed the disaster management secretary to inspect the disaster-affected areas and take necessary steps. Besides, he asked the officials concerned to assess the damage and distribute compensation to the eligible at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the district magistrate Meherban Singh Bisht has constituted a technical committee for the Gofiara area located at the foothill of Varunavat hill, directing the committee head to submit the report as quickly as possible.
