Rain & snowfall across U’khand, weather to calm down now

Various parts of the State witnessed rain and snowfall on Saturday, resulting in a drop in temperatures. The State Meteorological Centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Sunday. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky.
Saturday witnessed rain in the plains and lower altitudes coupled with snowfall in the higher reaches. In Chamoli district, the snowfall disrupted routine life. Badrinath Dham, Lokpal/Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers were covered by yet another layer of snow. The farmers in the high altitude areas are happy with the rain and snowfall. Those in the tourism business, especially in the Auli area are all the more happy with the latest snowfall. The rain and snowfall is expected to attract more toursits wanting to celebrate the advent of the new calendar year.
Snowfall was also witnessed in the mountainous areas are Dehradun district and Uttarkashi district. Rainfall was witnessed in Uttarkashi district with snowfall in the higher reaches. The Gangotri, Yamunotri valleys and the winter abodes of the deities of these shrines- Mukhwa and Kharsali were covered in a blanket of white following snowfall. The authorities in the districts concerned have directed the departments concerned to remain alert and take necessary steps to mitigate any negative impacts of heavy snowfall and rain.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Saturday were 14.4 degrees Celsius and 11.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 19.5 degrees Celsius and 12.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 6.9 degrees Celsius and two degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 6.3 degrees Celsius and 3.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
