Dense fog warning issued for Haridwar & Udham Singh Nagar
Some parts of the State may witness rain and snowfall after more than a month if the weather changes as forecast. The State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Wednesday.
Dry weather likely to prevail in the remaining districts. Further, shallow to moderate fog is likely to occur in some parts of the plains in Dehradun, Pauri and Nainital districts during the night/morning hours. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of dense to very dense fog likely to occur in some parts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts on Wednesday. Ground frost is likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions of the State.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. Mist/shallow are fog likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 21 degrees Celsius and six degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Tuesday were 21.4 degrees Celsius and 6.1 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 17.8 degrees Celsius and 7.6 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 11.2 degrees Celsius and 3.6 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 14.4 degrees Celsius and three degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
It is pertinent to mention here that there was negligible rain and snowfall in the State during the months of November and December last year. The dry trend has continued this year with the first fortnight of January passing without any significant weather activity. This has resulted in delay in sowing of wheat and other crops in areas dependent on rainfall. The lack of snowfall during the winter is also expected to affect fruit cultivation.
