Rain & snowfall revives cold in State, similar weather likely today

Light to moderate rain was witnessed in various parts of the State with snowfall reported in the high altitude regions on Sunday resulting in a marked drop in temperatures. The weather is expected to be similar on Monday with the State meteorological centre forecasting very light to light rain/thunderstorms likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Tehri, Dehradun, Pauri, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts with dry weather likely to prevail in the remaining districts. Light to moderate snowfall is likely to occur at altitudes of 2,500 metres and above today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky on Monday with light rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 22 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
Meanwhile, snowfall continued in various mountainous regions of the State on Sunday. Joshimath in Chamoli district witnessed rain in the lower reaches with snowfall in the high altitude areas. The snowfall in the month of March has intensified the cold in some of the regions with many villages covered in a blanket of white after about three days of snowfall. Tourists and those in associated business are enthused with the fresh snowfall in winter sports destination Auli. However, routine life has been affected considerably in the border regions of the mountainous districts including Chamoli and Pithoragarh due to the rain and snowfall being experienced for about three days.
In the Pithoragarh district, higher reaches of Dharchula and Munsyari witnessed snowfall for the second day on Sunday, Routine life has been affected with snowfall continuing in Dharchula, Darma, Vyas and Chaudas regions of the district.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Sunday were 19.9 degrees Celsius and 13.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 21.5 degrees Celsius and 5.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 7.5 degrees Celsius and 4.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 7.1 degrees Celsius and 3.9 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. There was 9.6 millimetres rain in Dehradun, 34.8 millimetres in Pantnagar, 14.3 millimetres in Mukteshwar, nine millimetres in New Tehri, 11.3 millimetres in Mussoorie, 25.6 millimetres in Pithoragarh and 21.5 millimetres in Chakrata.
