Rain & snowfall to break dry warmer spell in State

Various areas of Uttarakhand in the plains and mountains are witnessing a brief spell of comparatively warmer days with the maximum and minimum temperatures considerably above normal. However, the weather is set to take a turn on January 6 and 7 due to a western disturbance becoming active again.

According to the State Meteorological Centre, mountainous regions of the State at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above may witness snowfall on January 6 while areas situated at altitudes of 2,500 metres and above may witness snowfall on January 7. Light rain and snowfall is likely on these dates in parts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Almora districts.

On Saturday, dry weather is likely to prevail in the State. The provisional State capital Dehradun is likely to witness a mainly clear sky with mist/fog likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum temperature is forecast to climb further above normal to 28 degrees Celsius in Dehradun today. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts on Friday were 26.4 degrees Celsius and 8.3 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 20.5 degrees Celsius and 9.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22.1 degrees Celsius and eight degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 21 degrees Celsius and 9.5 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. The maximum temperature was seven degrees Celsius above normal while the minimum was two degrees above normal in Dehradun while the maximum was two degrees and the minimum was four degrees above normal in Pantnagar. Similarly, the maximum was 10 degrees above normal and the minimum was six degrees above normal in Mukteshwar while the maximum was five degrees above normal and the minimum was six degrees above normal in New Tehri.
