Raipur robbery solved in 12 hours, 2 arrested, stolen items recovered

The Raipur police solved a robbery case in Raipur within 12 hours of its occurrence and arrested two accused under ‘Operation Prahar’. The robbery took place on July 19 when two men entered the house of an elderly woman in Garhwali Colony while posing as Municipal Corporation employees. As the woman was alone at home, the accused allegedly tied her up, assaulted her and fled with her gold earrings, gold ring, Rs 3,000 in cash and a mobile phone.

After the complaint was filed, the police formed a special team and checked around 65 CCTV cameras in and around the area. Based on CCTV footage and information collected from informers, the police arrested Sagar Singh Rawat and Ankit Gupta from the CQI forest area in Raipur. Police recovered all the stolen items, including the jewellery, cash and mobile phone.

The superintendent of police (Rural), Jaya Bhaluni said that one of the accused lived in the same locality as the elderly woman and knew that she lived alone.

During questioning, the accused are learnt to have told police that they worked as plumbers and were addicted to drugs. “They planned the robbery to arrange money for drugs and other expenses,” police said, adding that the accused were arrested before they could sell the stolen property.
