Raipur shootout exposes poor law & order situation: Congress

Tuesday, 18 JUNE  2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Congress has said that the shootout in the Dobhal Chowk area of Raipur in the provisional State capital Dehradun on Sunday has exposed the poor law and order situation in the State. The party’s State spokesman Sheeshpal Singh Bisht said that the Congress party has been raising the issue of law and order for a long time, but the State government has paid no heed.

He said that in the shootout in the Raipur area of Dehradun, one person died while two others were seriously injured. Bisht said that the criminals are scot free while it appears that the police are “watching the spectacle with their eyes shut”.

The Congress spokesman listed many incidents of crime in the last few months including murder of Baba Tarsem Singh in Udham Singh Nagar district and the sensational robbery in Reliance Jewels showroom in Dehradun to buttress his claim on the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

He added that the data of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows that the incidents of crime against women in Uttarakhand are increasing. Bisht said that though the government is making tall claims about the law and order situation, the ground reality is that bullets are being fired in broad daylight and murders are taking place. An atmosphere of fear prevails in the general public. He said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami must take immediate measures to bring law and order back on track in the State.
