The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has directed the departments concerned to raise public awareness about the guidelines recently issued by the district administration regarding purchasing and selling of land and properties in view of rise in the incidence of land fraud cases.
The DM received 83 complaints in the public hearing on Monday, most of which were related to land frauds. She has directed all sub divisional magistrates (SDMs) to raise awareness among the public in their respective areas regarding the points which must be considered before buying or selling any piece of land. She said that she gets complaints related to land fraud and land disputes regularly in weekly public hearings and most of the time, the complainants do not know which points should be considered before purchasing land or what to do if they become a victim of a scam.
The public should have the basic and necessary information regarding land. People can also approach district officials to get crucial information before buying any land and how to proceed if they become victims of land fraud, said the DM. She also directed them to resolve the land fraud-related complaints on time while ensuring that the complainant is informed about the updated action on the matter. They should also be informed that speedy disposal of the complaints which are under consideration in the court is not possible, added the DM.
