In latest news from Doon, in a crackdown on illegal mining, the Raiwala police claimed to have seized six tractors and one JCB machine found to be used in mining riverbed materials and transporting them. Police sources said that some contractors, engaged in an ongoing irrigation department project, were having riverbed materials mined from a nearby river, loaded in tractors and then transported away. When the police team arrived at the spot and asked those on the tractors to show permits for mining and vehicle-related papers they fled. Thereafter, police impounded six tractors and one JCB machine under the Motor Vehicles Act.
