Rare Katyuri relics add to grandeur of KU’s Himalayan Museum

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the in-charge of the Himalayan Museum of the DSB campus of Kumaun University Prof Savitri Kaida Jantwal said that with the Katyuri period in Uttarakhand considered to be the golden period for temple architecture with figures carved on the stones, some of these rare relics have been brought into the museum for their scientific preservation. “This is a privilege for the museum here to hold and display such relics which signify the glorious past of Uttarakhand. Not just researchers and students but visitors from India and world will see these rare artefacts and get acquainted with the height of excellence the temple architecture reached during the reign of Katyuri dynasty,” she said and added that some of the research students had been instrumental in bringing these rare artefacts here. Besides, she thankfully mentioned the contribution of many individuals. She expressed special gratitude to the vice- chancellor of the university, Diwan Singh Rawat and said that but for his inspiration, this could not have been possible and added that they were working to take this museum to the national level as per the wish of its founders like Ajay Rawat, Shekhar Pathak and Heera Bhakuni.
