Raturi directs all DMs to identify slums under municipal bodies

The chief secretary Radha Raturi directed all district magistrates to identify all slums located under the purview of municipal bodies in their respective districts and present their report to the State government within a week. She also instructed the officials concerned to create a corpus for people living in slums. She stated this in the State Level Monitoring Committee meeting at the secretariat on Friday.
The officials informed Raturi that as per the government’s notification dated December 21, 2016, the authorities identified four slums of Category One and two slums of Category Two in Bageshwar and 57 slums of Category One, two of Category Two and 24 of Category Three were identified in Haridwar district. Besides this, 37 slums of Category One, one slum of Category Two and 23 slums of Category Three were identified in Nainital, four slums of Category One in Almora along with 128 slums identified in Dehradun.
Raturi directed the DMs to send the updated report to the government within a week after identifying the slums in the municipal bodies so that it can start working on the action plan for their development, restoration and rehabilitation as soon as possible. She also directed the officials to work on an effective action plan with the utmost sensitivity and humanity for the improvement, regulation, restoration, rehabilitation and resettlement of slums in the State.
She directed the departments and agencies concerned to hold a meeting in this regard. She also directed the Urban Development Directorate to make an action plan for the arrangement of adequate housing and insurance for sanitation workers.
