Raturi directs officials to expedite work for procedure clearance of Song dam project

Chief secretary Radha Raturi has expressed dissatisfaction at the delay in the procedure clearance works of the Song dam project. She has directed the Irrigation department and the executing agency UPDCC Limited to complete the necessary tasks as early as possible. The chief secretary issued this instruction while chairing a meeting of the expenditure finance committee (EFC) of the Song dam project at the secretariat on Monday.
The chief secretary stated that considering the future requirements in view of the shortage of water supply in Dehradun city, the Song dam project is a very important project for facilitating the supply of drinking water. The execution of this project will provide 150 MLD raw water for drinking water supply in Dehradun city, saving of expenditure on maintainence of tubewells, recharging of the ground water and flood control while also providing a boost to tourism activities. Officials of the Irrigation department informed in the meeting that approval in principle for reverting 127 hectare forest land has been received from the Forest department. The process of acquisition of private land is underway, the officials further informed.
In a related development, while chairing the meeting of the high powered committee on Jamrani dam project, the chief secretary, along with approval in principle, directed officials to prepare to submit a presentation on this project in the next cabinet meeting.
Additional chief secretary Anand Bardhan, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, secretaries R Meenakshi Sundaram, Dilip Jawalkar and chief wildlife warden Samir Sinha were also among those present in the meeting.
