Rawat announces measures for enhancing education, checks health facilities for Yatra

Education and Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat laid the foundation for the Kasturba Gandhi girls boarding school hostel building costing Rs 330 lakh during an event at Chinyalisaud here on Sunday. The minister also checked Health department preparations for the Char Dham Yatra.

Congratulating the Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh for successfully organising the event, he directed officials to identify land for a building of the association. Rawat said that Uttarakhand is the first State to have declared the results of the board examination. About 40 per cent of the students have secured first division in the board examination results this year. This shows the good condition of the education system in the State, he said.

The minister announced that girl students who score more than 70 per cent marks in class VI will get a monthly scholarship of Rs 600 which will be increased by Rs 100 every year in order to reach the amount of Rs 1,200 by the time the student reaches class XII. The government will provide books free of cost to students from class I to XII. This will benefit about 12 lakh students in the State, he said. In addition to this, the 10 toppers in each block will be taken on the national educational tour. The minister further said that the government is working to develop virtual classes and smart classes along with computer facilities in all government schools in the State. Sports equipment will be distributed to 1,200 schools, he said, while adding that the government has made a Rs 50 crore provision for repairing damaged school buildings.

Earlier, the minister also reviewed preparations for the Char Dham Yatra at Chinyalisaud. He directed the chief medical officer to ensure that pilgrims receive high quality medical facilities during the Yatra slated to begin on April 30. The minister also directed the officials concerned to ensure the availability of doctors, adequate quantity of essential medicines and oxygen at the community health centre in Badkot and other medical units in the district. The government has also ensured the deployment of specialist doctors during the pilgrimage season, the minister added.
