In an attempt to distance himself and the Congress party from the controversy created by the comments on Hindutva made by senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid, the head of election campaign committee of the Congress in Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat said that he and the Congress party do not endorse such comments.
Controversy erupted when Khurshid in his new book compared Hindutva with that of Islamic State (IS) and Boko Haram. Talking to the media persons in Haldwani on Friday, Rawat said that Khurshid should correct himself and such comments would only strengthen only those elements which are trying to spread the poison of hatred in the society. Rawat clearly said that whatever Khurshid had commented in his book is his ( Khurshid’s) personal thinking.
Rawat said that the rising prices have made commodities out of reach and the lives of people have become miserable due to it. He said that the state government should do its bit to bring some succour to the people of the state. On the recent rain triggered disaster, the former CM said that he has visited the affected areas and found that the assessment of compensation has not been done yet. He said that locals complain that whatever little compensation has been released has been given to BJP workers.
